This centuries-old celebration transforms the coastal towns of Praia da Luz and Lagos into a magical spectacle of folklore, music, and midnight revelry.

Portuguese folklore tells us that taking a midnight swim on August 29th wards off evil spirits and is worth twenty-nine regular baths. Whether you believe in the supernatural powers or simply crave an unforgettable night under the stars, this beloved tradition offers something truly special for everyone.

Multiple Celebrations in Lagos

The festivities begin early and build to an incredible midnight crescendo:
Morning Heritage (11:00 AM)
Start your day at Avenida dos Descobrimentos and Praia da Batata with a historical recreation of the Banho 29 tradition by the Lagos Study Center, bringing the past to vivid life.
Afternoon Energy (6:00 PM onwards)
Zumba Session with Ana Leal at Cais da Solaria
Street Entertainment with Nuno & Companhia creating carnival atmosphere
Jazz Vibes at Jardim da Constituição featuring the Algarve Jazz Orchestra Trio
Evening Glamour (8:30 PM onwards)
The night heats up with fashion competitions that celebrate both tradition and creativity:

Midnight Magic (12:00 AM)
The grand finale features spectacular fireworks illuminating the Atlantic, followed by the traditional midnight swim and live music from MT 80 performing “We Rock the 80s.”

While the full program for Praia da Luz is still being finalized, it’s certain to have its own spectacular celebration with customary three different stages offering diverse entertainment throughout the evening. It always has live music, plenty of eat and drinks, fireworks and of course the midnight swim! ;D
