The “Banho do 29” (Bath of the 29th) is a longstanding tradition in Praia da Luz, with origins that are uncertain, but believed to be linked to ancient rites marking the end of summer or the legacy of Arab influence. According to folklore, the bath taken on August 29th wards off demons and is equivalent to twenty-nine regular baths. Today, it is one of the most popular traditions in Lagos and a reason for a grand celebration.

The festivities will take place on August 29th in Praia da Luz, organized by the Clube Recreativo, Cultural e Desportivo Luzense. Admission is free, and the event is open to all.

In addition to the nighttime bath, the celebration will feature historical reenactments, food and drinks, parades of traditional and modern swimwear, and lively musical entertainment throughout the village. The event will have three stages set up for the occasion: the Sunset Stage, the Traditional Stage, and the Beach Stage.
