Felizonda ∗ Ukrainian Festival in Lagos

In the picturesque town of Lagos, Algarve, the annual Felizonda festival is set to once again honor the vibrant Ukrainian community in Portugal and the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine. Coinciding with Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24th, the festival will take place from August 23rd to 25th at the Antigo Ciclo Preparatório, in front of the Lagos City Hall.

The festival, which translates to “Happy Wave” in English, is a testament to the strong and enduring ties between the Ukrainian and Portuguese communities. These connections predate the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, and have only been strengthened by the unwavering support that the Portuguese people have shown for their Ukrainian counterparts.

The three-day program is designed to celebrate and showcase the best of Ukrainian culture. On August 23rd, the festivities will kick off at 6 pm with a performance by the Lisa Band, traditional Ukrainian games, and DJ FRANPE. The following day, starting at 4 pm, visitors can look forward to a lineup that includes Victoria Shapk, the raising of the Ukrainian flag, Thais and Artem, Verónica and Sofia, and DJ VOLT.

The final day of the celebrations, also beginning at 4 pm, will feature traditional Ukrainian games, a performance by Daria Butynska, the Poor Man’s Band, and DJ FRANPE. The complete program can be found on the festival’s website page on facebook.
